Swiggy Dineout has a problem when big-brand restaurants close

In: Advertising

In recent weeks, hundreds of top-rated restaurants including Mamagoto, Smoke House Deli, and Cafe Delhi Heights have left Swiggy dine-out. This is in response to a campaign that could threaten the growth of the food tech platform.

The National Restaurants Association of India recently urged its members to log out of Swiggy Dineout. They claimed that the restaurant’s practice of offering deep discounts would harm one of its core businesses.

The development has been confirmed by several hospitality chains including Impresario Entertainment and Hospitality, Indigo Hospitality, and Simmering Foods and Restaurants.

Swiggy spokespeople stated that over 400 outlets from 20 brands had logged out after the publication.

A Swiggy spokesperson said: “Restaurant partners on Dineout have the complete liberty to decide on how much discounts they wish to offer to customers through their listing on the app. Only a handful of restaurant partners have expressed their desire to delist from the platform. We continue to engage with them and NRAI representatives to revisit their choices.”

Bengaluru-based Swiggy bought Dining in May. This was a restaurant and tech platform that was founded in 2012 with more than 50,000 restaurants. Swiggy was able to enter the restaurant listing business, a field Zomato had been in for many years.

According to the source, restaurant partners that are listed on Dineout must voluntarily migrate to Swiggy’s new dining platform Swiggy Diners.

“Dineout continues its partnership with more than 15,000 restaurants in over 20 cities on the platform. Swiggy spoke out to say that they continue to engage with restaurant partners in order to improve their offerings and make the partnership sustainable for all.
