It aims to provide engineers with mentorship, hands-on experience, and real-world problem-solving opportunities. PhonePe offers many learning opportunities and growth opportunities.
It is determined to increase its workforce, diversify its resources and offer more value to its customers. Let’s look at some of the learning programs at PhonePe and how they help to reach the company’s goals.
Building a tech talent powerhouse with PhonePe University
PhonePe University: Building a tech talent force house The umbrella program was created to support the growing learning needs of PhonePe Technology staff members. The university focuses on two types of operation: project-based and workshop models. PhonePe University offers several key programs, including Learning Groups and Workshop Models.
Learning Groups — The Workshop Model
This program allows for a larger number of participants to participate in a specialized training/course session as well as to work together to build expertise on a specific topic. PhonePe designed this program as a combination of theory and practical problem-solving. It was facilitated by in-house subject-matter experts. PhonePe’s subject experts have already coached more than 280 engineers in 18 workshops.
They covered seven topics and contributed to over 10,000 hours of learning. 30% of these participants are repeat sign-ups, and 72 percent have been with PhonePe for less than two years. This fulfills the company’s mission to distribute tribal knowledge within the system.
On-The-Job Project Model
The mentor-mentee model of the On-The-Job Project Model allows engineers to work with a mentor to solve problems from conception to completion. This track focuses on helping individuals develop in specific areas. It involves assessing current capabilities and identifying technical problems. Then, it will help them to define support paths, including mentorship by senior members of the team, and skill development to ensure successful project executions.
The engineering leadership team provides holistic feedback on both technical and behavioral aspects of the journey to candidates through periodic reviews and checkpoints.
The Engineering Induction
The Engineering Induction is a 6-week induction program that targets campus graduates (Bootcamp for Campus Freshers) and lateral hires (Lateral Induction Programme). It includes technical workshops, stretch assignments, and cross-domain projects.
This program is structured and designed to help you assimilate faster. These programs give freshers a good overview of the organisation, technology systems and platforms. They include sessions on computer science fundamentals and design patterns, architecture at PhonePe, product context and leadership sessions, as well as tech talks.
